Sarajevo 6hrs tour

Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina, sorrounded by Olyimpic mountins, in the valley of river Miljacka. Population of Sarajevo is cca 420 000 citizens. Established as a city in 15th century by Isaj Bey Ishakovic, Sarajevo became a main crossroad for caravans and traders from east, west, north and south. It has rich culture, and for centuries presence of all monotheistic religions. In circle of just 100 meters you can find mosque, orthodox church, chatolic cathedral and jewish synagogue in the town. Walking trough the main street you can see the fine line between Ottoman and Austro – Hungarian architecture – we call it “Sarajevo meeting of cultures”. Take a tour with us and discover our small city with big stories, the place where east meets west, enjoy the panoramic drive and breathtaking sights from the Yellow and White Fortresses.

Main places to visit

Walking tour of old town Bascarsija, bezistan – covered market place; Gazi Husrev Bey Mosque- built in 1530 year during the Ottoman era – and Gazi Husrev Bey Madrass; Morica han built in 1551. Assassination 1914 on the Latin Bridge, Emperor's Mosque, City Hall/National Library – who was constructed during the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the Moorish style, Spite House, Bravadziluk and Kazandziluk old streets, Jewish Quarter, Sarajevo Cathedral, Sarajevo roses - reminder of the killed civilians; Bosniak Institute Markale Marketplace, Eternal Flame, National Teatre, Bosnian Cultural Center, War Tunnel museum and a siege '92-'95 with detail explanation, Springs of river Bosnia national park- the green resort and oasis perfect for your relaxation at the end of the Grand tour.

Highlights:

Spite house and City Hall

First stop on our tour will be Seher-Cehajina Bridge, that connects Spite house and City Hall. It’s located in the Old town, on the spot where story of Sarajevo as a city begins before these two atractions. After introduction we’ll visit City Hall (National libery) built in 1896. in Moorish style. It’s triangle shaped building full of decorations and unique details. City Hall was destroyed during the last war, we reconstructed it on summer 2014.

Highlights:

After City Hall we’ll proceed to the heart of Old Town – main square Bascarsija. On the way well cross the street with restaurants of bosnian traditional dish Čevapi. Going trough the only remaining street from Ottoman period – Kazandžiluk and entering Baščaršija, you’ll enjoy the smell of Bosnian coffee and flavours of hookah bars. Bascarsija is the main square with its famous public font Sebilj.

Gazi Husrev Bey’s mosque

From Baščaršija we’ll move down the Sarači street to Gazi Husrev Bey’s mosque. It’s the most important mosque in Sarajevo with beautiful story of its builder. Near the mosque there is Clock tower also from the XV century, Madrass, and Morica Han.

Old Orthodox Church

Sarajevo is multicultural, multireligious and multiethnical city for centuries. Nearby Gazi Husrev Bey’s mosque there are Jewish old and new temples, Sacred Heart Chaetedral and Old Orthodox Church.

Sarajevo meeting of Cultures

There is a border, in the “sweet corner” in Old town, between two cultures – two empires. That border is called “Sarajevo meeting of Cultures” and its a place where you can see two sides of the street, on one side Ottoman architecture ends and on the other side Austro – Hungarian architecture starts.

Latin bridge

Moving from Sweet corner trough Bezistan, Sarajevo’s covered market from Ottoman Empire, to one of the most visited locations in Sarajevo, Latin bridge. Famous for assassination of Austro – Hungarian archduke Franz Ferdinand, what triggered the WWI.

White and Yellow fortress

Fortifications that made up the defensive wall around of the old town. Since it is positioned it was sufficient to defend the city from enemy attack, but today, it offers a fantastic view of the city and is one of Sarajevo’s most popular vantage points.Five bastions were placed at points along the fortified wall, including the Yellow Fortress, which takes its name from the yellow rock that was used in its construction.The fortress lost its original function once the Austro-Hungarians took over Sarajevo.

Tunnel of Hope museum

At the end of the tour we’ll visit Sarajevo’s tunnel. With introduction about the Bosnian war and siege of Sarajevo you’ll learn what was hapening here during the longest siege in modern history ’92-’95. We’ll visit Tunnel museum, watch a short film about the war and go trough the tunnel.

Bosnia springs

Drive trough the city to Bosna springs, the nature protected area in Ilidza, the green oasis of Sarajevo. Bosna is the river from witch this country got the name.
